The most widespread Greek “sea-expressions”!

Language is not static.
On the contrary, it is something that evolves over time, travels with us and is influenced by our habits. It is not a set of words and rules. It is a communication code and a way of exchanging information. Of course, it is related to society, the way of life, the social background of every folk.

This communication has a soul and puts man in the center. His worries, his job, his environment, … all have one place in the language.

Greece has always been a naval country. The sea was not only the natural environment of many people but also the way to win their daily bread. Since the antiquity the trade has developed, but until now the islanders live mainly from fishing. This justifies completely the position of the sea in everyday language. It is a language alive, spontaneous and unpretentious.

It is difficult to record all the expressions. But here one finds the most important, or the oldest and most widespread.
